Security Response Drill

Security awareness is a top priority at Black Sea Terminal. As such, security response drills are conducted on a quarterly basis for all security staff. These drills help our security personnel develop essential competencies, new techniques, and methods that are essential in dealing with potential security issues.

The security response drill was recently conducted at BST for SGS (SOCAR Georgia Security) employees as per ISPS (International Ship & Port facility Security code) standard requirements. The main topics discussed and practiced during the drill included:

1)    Increasing knowledge of security personnel in the direction of security regulations and procedures implemented at Kulevi Oil Terminal.

2)    Increasing and improving port security level.

3)    Safe and operative handling of suspicious objects or packages.

4)    Check and improve communication process between involved employees during security alarm.

5)    Correct response to the possible invasion into the terminal territory.

6)    Control entrance of suspicious vehicle on the site

The drill began by presenting the security ISPS regulations and security procedures that are followed at Kulevi Oil Terminal. During the drill, participants were also familiarized with the European Union handbook on International Port Security and related issues. These were followed by practical work on various security breach scenarios, divided by modules.

There is also a security drill checklist which includes:

a) Communication channels;

b) Escape routes;

c) Meeting places;

d) Emergency lighting and signage;

e) Flow of traffic;

f) Comprehension of alerts;

g) Timing;

h) Participation.

All the checklist requirements were fulfilled properly and correctly. Each drill module included a description of the security breach scenario, response procedures, scenario specific checklists and objectives. After each topic, participants were assessed based on their performance during simulated situations. This drill is necessary to ensure that proper response measures and actions are always taken in case of any security threats at the terminal.
