 Black Sea Terminal is committed to improve its Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Management System in accordance to International Standards and practices. Company’s HSEQ management system is certified under ISO (ISO 9001-2000; 14001-2004) and OHSAS 18001-2007 international standards by United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
HSEQ Management System’s main elements are based on plan-do-check-act criteria. HSEQ Management System covers all company processes and services and aimed to continually improve BST Ltd’s Management Systems.
Protection of health and safety of personnel, prevention of pollution to environment and provision of services responding to customer satisfaction are BST HSEQ Management System’s main principles. Company implements different management methods to achieve its main principles. All BST personnel are covered with health care and insurance services. All equipments used for service provision are designed to meet safety standards and personnel involved in operation of such equipment are covered under effective training strategy to improve personnel competence and awareness with all HSE standards and practices. All BST personnel are provided with personnel protective equipment.
Company implemented and maintains effective Risk Assessment, Isolation and Permit to Work standards, which are necessary controls to ensure that all processes and tasks are conducted in accordance to HSEQ Management System’s requirements.
Considering the Geographical location (vicinity to Kolkheti National Park and Ramsar sites) of the Black Sea Terminal the protection of environment and prevention of pollution is most essential issue for the company. Black Sea Terminal has identified all essential environmental aspects associated with its activities and implemented necessary measures to mitigate related impacts on environment. Environmental protection mainly is embedded on the design of the equipments and facilities involved in oil and oil products storage and transshipment, which prevent accidentally release of hydrocarbons to surrounding environment and mitigate emissions to atmosphere. Following environmental protection measures are implemented to support design based protection:
1. All wastes collected, segregated and stored in special waste bins.
2. Special waste transportation and disposal companies have been contracted for transportation and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes.
3. Waste segregation and waste management trainings have been conducted with personnel to improve personnel awareness in waste management and create environmentally friendly behaviors.
4. Special heavy duty booms and oil spill equipment has been installed at berth area to ensure prompt response to accidentally oil spills to river and sea waters.
5. Specialized oil spill response company has been contracted to respond to Tier II and Tier III oil spills.
6. Incident Management and Oil Spill Response trainings has been conducted with all essential personnel involved in emergency and oils pill response.
7. Oil Spill Kits have been provided at terminal sites for collection of minor oil spills.
8. Regular preventive maintenance activities are conducted to prevent accidental oil spills from process equipment and plant and keep all equipment assigned for oil spill prevention and response in a good working condition.
9. Regular environmental monitoring activities have been conducted to assess impacts on environment associated with company environmental aspects.
10. Special environmental protection projects have been worked out to reduce impacts on environment. (E.g. Rioni river shore stabilization project)
Black Sea Terminal renders financial support to Kolkheti National Park to conduct environmental monitoring, research and rehabilitation activities.
